Choosing the Right Booster Seats Made Easy

When shopping for the best booster seat, there are several different factors to consider. Discover what to look for in booster seats and which Diono booster seat will give you everything you need.

There are high-back boosters, backless boosters, and 2-in-1 high-back boosters that convert to backless. Diono recommends all children should travel in a high-back booster until 120 lbs, or otherwise stated by the user manual. This is because a high-back booster typically does a better job of positioning the shoulder belt, and offers side impact protection. If a high-back booster is not a practical option, for example when carpooling or traveling, a backless booster seat is better than no booster seat.

By choosing our booster seats for kids, you can rest assured you are providing your child with the best comfort, safety, and functionality. Our commitment to rigorous safety standards means every Diono booster seat exceeds the needs of modern families.

Diono offers many amazing options, including the Monterey 6XT SafePlus High-Back Booster , which offers premium comfort and an easy-adjust 12-position head and backrest that grows with your kid. The Monterey 6XT features flexible LATCH connection for an easy installation and universal compatibility with vehicles, an ultra-wide design and comfort with 8 layers of Side Impact Protection.

Easy and quick installation means you do not have to waste a lot of your time and can get the job done without facing any safety issues. Diono ensures that every booster seat you buy from us is easy to install, and our team can also help you do the installation.

However, if you need something super simple to install, go with Cambria® 2XT, which comes with flexible LATCH connectors. Its XL wide design is optimized for comfort and safety with built-in padded armrests and finished with deep padded cushioning also makes it easy to fit in most vehicles.

When you are always on the go, you can't overlook how portable your selected booster seat is. Diono makes it easier to decide with various impressive models.

Connect3® RXT 2-in-1 High-Back Booster is another popular option for its lightweight design. This seat can easily be moved from one vehicle to another, with a flexible LATCH install, and is also highly comfortable with premium layered padding for those longer road trips. Be sure to take a break every 2 to 3 hours when traveling with children to stretch your legs.

In short, the best booster seats are comfortable, convenient, and durable. Some of Diono’s booster seats have all these features, along with other advanced features. For instance, our Monterey 6DXT SafePlus High-Back Booster Seatcomes with 8-layer side impact protection with a 12-position headrest and backrest.

Frequently Asked Questions about Booster Seats

We at Diono understand that you must have many questions about when to switch to booster seats, the best types, and how to install them properly. We are here to answer all those questions!

You should keep your child in a booster seat until the adult seat belt fits them correctly without the boost. That is usually when your child is around 4 feet and 9 inches tall. Most children fit a standard seat belt when they are 10-12 years old.

In 2024, Diono launched the Connect3 series - the industry’s first ever booster seat meant to fit 3-across in most mid-sized sedans. This slim, 17" wide seat features patented nestling cup holders and a contoured EasyReach™ buckle access point, and is comfortable for your little ones to sit side-by-side. Check out more information about our Connect3 series!

When do booster seats expire? Well, it usually depends on the brand you choose, but most booster seats come with a life span of 6-10 years. You need to pay attention to the manufacturer's guidelines to know the expiration date; you can also find it stamped on the seat. All Diono booster seats have a lifespan of 8 years from the time you purchase the seat.

Kids should be switched to booster seats when they at least weigh 40 pounds. Even if your child weighs a bit lower but is taller than 57 inches, you should still consider switching to a booster seat.

When your child exceeds the height or weight limit of their forward-facing harnessed car seat, it is generally time for a booster seat. Booster seats rely on the use of the adult passenger seat belt, and give your child the extra height boost needed to ensure the belt fits them properly. This could happen anywhere between age 4 and 7, depending on your child’s growth.

When they are tall enough for the adult belt to fit them properly without a boost, they will no longer need the booster seat. This happens when your child is at least 4 feet and 9 inches tall, generally around age 8 to 12.

Booster seats are designed for kids who no longer fit the manufacturer's guidelines for convertible seats. These seats are suitable for children who weigh 40 - 120 lbs and are under 5’ 3” feet tall.
