Protecting Your Little One with a Diono Infant Car Seat

At Diono, we understand how tricky it is for parents to decide on the first car seat for their baby. Keeping your child safe is a top priority for parents, and we know that can be stressful. Don't worry; we’ve got you covered with all the helpful information needed to guide your purchase.  Keep reading for top tips to help you identify the right option for you and your little one.

When buying an infant car seat, the most important factor to consider is safety.

Diono’s line of LiteClik30 infant car seats are all designed with SafePlus® Engineering and include top-of-the-line features such as steel anti-rebound bars. The anti-rebound bar reduces rearward rotation of the car seat in the event of a crash. This ensures your baby stays protected after the primary impact of the collision. Our LiteClik30 XT and LiteClik30 RXT infant car seat bases also feature a full steel core, made with automotive-grade high-strength steel.

If you are buying your very first infant car seat, it is natural to worry about the installation process. All Diono infant car seats are designed to have quick, simple, and easy installations, with features such as a premium LATCH connectors and EasyPath® belt lock-off. The LiteClik30 R and LiteClik30 RX infant car seat bases feature two bubble level indicators and a 5-position leveling foot system to ensure the car seat is installed at a proper angle in your vehicle seat.

Car rides can be difficult with an infant, and even more so if they are uncomfortable and fussy in their car seat. Diono LiteClik30 infant car seats are designed with premium fabrics and include SitRite® infant inserts and harness pads to deliver the best comfort and support. All Diono infant car seats have UPF 50+ canopies to keep your baby shielded from the sun.

The LiteClik30 RX offers full-coverage privacy for your baby with its extendable canopy made of breathable mesh. The LiteClik30 XT and LiteClik30 RXT are also great choices because the canopies feature fold-out visors to increase sun protection.

Being able to transition your infant car seat from the base installed in your car to a stroller or wagon allows you to take your baby on-the-go without disrupting their comfortable position. If you already own a stroller or wagon, or have a favorite you plan to buy, it’s important to pick an infant car seat that will be compatible with it.

If you are looking to buy a travel system, check out the Diono Quantum®4 3-in-1 Travel System. This travel system includes our LiteClik®30 R SafePlus® infant car seat, infant car seat base, and stroller frame with detachable stroller seat that is suitable from birth to 50 pounds.

If you and your family travel frequently, it will be helpful to have an infant car seat that can be taken on airplanes and in taxis or rideshare vehicles.

Diono and the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) strongly urge you to secure your child in a child restraint system (CRS) or device for the duration of your flight. Diono LiteClik30 infant car seats are FAA approved and can be used on an airplane, only when installed without the base. Please contact the airline for their specific policies.

A child restraint should always be used when traveling by car. Diono infant car seats can also be used in rideshare vehicles or taxis, either with the base or as a carrier-only installation when necessary. If you expect to transport your baby in more than one vehicle, we recommend that you purchase more than one base for your infant car seat. Diono sells additional LiteClik30 infant car seat bases separately, so that you can have one installed in each caregiver’s vehicle for peace of mind. To learn more about the value of having additional infant car seat bases, read our blog article here: The Benefits of Extra Car Seat Bases

Frequently Asked Questions about Infant Car Seats

At Diono, we realize that you may have many questions about infant car seats, especially when buying one for the first time. Please feel free to contact us to ask any questions, or review our Safety Hub here: Diono Safety Hub

Here are some of our most frequently asked questions:

Infant car seats are suitable for newborns and infants, and are often used to take a baby home from the hospital after birth and through their first year or two of life. Diono infant car seats can accommodate children from 4 lbs up to 30 lbs, or up to 30 inches in height, whichever happens first. The average child reaches a height of 30 inches shortly after they turn one year old, and a weight of 30 pounds shortly after they turn two and a half years old. Most children will outgrow their infant car seat due to height restrictions before they reach the weight restrictions.

Every infant car seat comes with a height and/or weight limit. It means you need to switch to a convertible or all-in-one car seat when your child outgrows those limits. It usually happens when your child is 9-18 months of age. If there is less than an inch of space between your child's head and the top of the seat shell, it is time to switch seats.

A child should be rear-facing for as long as possible, ideally up to 50 lbs. All infant car seats are rear-facing. Once your baby outgrows their infant car seat, they should move to a convertible seat that allows them to continue to ride rear-facing. Diono Radian all-in-one convertible car seats allow your child to ride rear-facing up to 50 lbs, which will typically happen when the child is 3 or 4 years old. Learn more about the importance of rear-facing here: Diono Journal | Everything you need to know about Car Seat Safety in the United States

Young children should not be in their car seats for extended periods of time. On long trips we recommend everyone get out and stretch every two hours. This is a great time to feed your baby or change a diaper, get older kids some snacks, or take a bathroom break, and everyone should walk around to get the circulation flowing. These breaks might make the trip a little longer overall, but they'll also make the trip more enjoyable for everyone.
